Residency for Dependents of Permanent Residents

Foreign spouses, children under eighteen (18) years of age, family members with disabilities, and dependent parents of a two (2) year provisional resident, permanent resident, or national may apply for this permit. Children over eighteen (18) years of age up to twenty-five (25) years of age may be requested as dependents, provided they are regular students and are under the economic dependence of the resident or national. A resident or national who demonstrates having legal guardianship or custody and care of a minor may apply for them as a dependent.

To formalize this residency process due to dependency, it is essential to present a notarized Power of Attorney and an Application through an immigration lawyer in Panama, accompanied by three recent photographs and a copy of the passport duly cross-checked before a notary or competent authority. The file must include Criminal Record and Health certificates, the Sworn Declaration of Personal Background form, and the respective Letter of Responsibility and Repatriation signed by the resident or national before a notary public; likewise, it is required to provide proof of kinship through marriage or birth certificates or judicial proof of guardianship, along with a notarized copy of the immigration card or the ID (cédula) authenticated by the National Directorate of Identification. Regarding financial obligations, two certified checks must be attached: one for B/.250.00 in favor of the National Treasury and another for B/.800.00 in favor of the National Immigration Service.

In cases where the applicant is of legal age but under twenty-five years old, their status as a full-time student must be proven through an educational certification, and a sworn declaration of single status must be presented. Finally, it is imperative to demonstrate the economic solvency of the responsible resident, which can be validated through an income tax return that meets the minimum income of one thousand balboas per month (plus an additional one hundred per dependent) and its clearance certificate (paz y salvo), or through an updated job letter with its Social Security fund slip (ficha) and work permit, or a bank reference letter reflecting medium four-digit figures.
